| Gardening with great results! |
||
| We've all heard about the new garden at the White House. Gardening has become the thing to do. With the economic times we're facing, many people are taking up gardening, not only as a hobby but as a necessity.
For those of you new to gardening, listen up. What makes a great garden? Well, half the work is in the soil. Without good soil plants, trees and shrubs just don't flourish. In a rush to start a garden, many people fail to amend the soil with organic material such as compost and if they do, they do too little. |
Here in the Midwest our soil has a lot of clay in it. In many yards the soil is compacted and is poor in nutrients. By amending the soil with compost, you improve its texture, drainage and moisture retention. You also add nutrients back into the earth as well as adding volume and aeration. The truth is, preparing the soil is more important than anything you can do for your garden. In return, your plants will produce a kaleidoscope of color and bushels of bounty! |
